Archive Hack - Old posts only

Greetings everyone,

Can anybody tell me how to modify the "archive/index.php" and/or the "archive/global.php" files to generate an archive that only includes threads and posts up to a given date?

I want to create an archive of old posts that I anticipate I would then scrape and upload to another url for the purpose of increasing my search engine presence.

After creating and spydering the old posts archive, I would then comment out the code and let vb regenerate another standard archive.

That is of course unless somebody has a better solution.

Thanks,

Jackson

Not really sure that i understand what you want.

The "archive" in vBulletin is not a real archive is in that it archives old posts. It is mere a different presentation of all the current threads, so that they can be more easy spidered.

Hi MarcoH64,

Thanks for taking an interest in this.

Yes, I understand that the archive is not really an archive, just a spyder-friendly html version of the forum's threads and posts.

What I want to do is create exactly that, but only including threads and posts up to a certain date, not all the threads and posts in the forum.

Once this spyder-friendly html version of my forum's threads and posts is created, I would use a spyder program to capture it, which I would then upload to a different domain. The idea is that the search engines would spyder the other domain, thus causing it to popup in the relevant search results. When a visitor visits the other domain, there would be a prominent link directing them to my active site.

I imangine that the cutoff date would be hard coded into the php files, so once my active forum had generated an archive with the old threads and posts, and after I had copied it, I would then comment out the added code so that my active forum would then re-generate a normal archive.

I would only need to do this once every few months, so I don't think there's a need for a user interface.

Thanks,

Jackson

Greetings everyone,

Would it be possible to interest anyone in developing this hack?

Anyone?

Thanks,

Jackson
