Personally I really like this simple mod...

If you click on "Send a Private Message to User" in a Post, this Hack will prefill the Title and Message for the new PM.

It's a convenient time-saver, and makes a lot of sense. All of my users really appreciate it, and I think it would make sense to have it here too.

I would like this as well.

This assumes that your PM is related to the post, which may not be the case. :)

Oh, well if that's your concern, here's a newly released hack that improves upon the same idea: Quote Post in PM

(This new hack didn't exist when I made the initial request.)

The "Send a Private Message to XXXXX" menu option remains with this new hack installed, Paul M. You retain that option if your PM isn't related to the post. :)

What this hack does is add another option, which allows for private replies to be sent, with the original post being quoted in the PM. It'll be updated soon to include a link back to the original post, effectively replacing the utility of Andreas' original hack. It makes it very easy to take certain questions and private conversations to PM, which makes forums a more comfortable place to interact.

Any chance of getting this on vB.org?

There are plans to add this, lots going on in the 'backroom' at the moment but as soon as I catch up on that and send my company away (my house is a party house, got three guys passed out in the basment right now ;)) I'll install it.

Thanks, Brad. Since I made the original request, Boofo released a newer, more robust version of this hack here. It adds a menu option rather than replaces the existing one, which addressed Paul M's concern above. And it quotes the message you're replying to. (And pretty soon Boofo will be adding a link back into the resulting PM.)

That's probably the smarter one to install.
