Login From HTML Link

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to login from a simple href tag that would need to look something like the following:

<a href="login.php?username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD">Login</a>

USERNAME and PASSWORD would be PHP variables that would be echoed into the HTML link.
