A staff member always shown as logged in???

We find that our trolls seems to wait until no staff is showing as being logged in then commence the BS.

Are there any ideas on how to maybe create a couple dummy mod/admin accounts and have at least one showing as being logged in at all times? Or maybe a hack that would allow a few current staff members to always be shown as logged in?

Two ways that I have used.

1. Set one of your staff to invisible mode then in your forumhome template find
Code:

<div>$activeusers</div>
Replace this with code mimicing the one below, placing the name and profile link of the invisible staff member in there.

This is taken directly from my site to give you the template to follow. Ensure that any username markup is also applied to each entry as appropriate.
Code:

<div>
<a href="http://www.peterska2.co.uk/member.php?u=54">Alice</a>, <a href="http://www.peterska2.co.uk/member.php?u=300">TechnoGeek</a>, <a href="http://www.peterska2.co.uk/member.php?u=235">Tom</a>, $activeusers</div>

2. Create a new mod/admin/whatever and repeat the above template changes.

If you want to know how it looks, take a look at www.peterska2.co.uk
Tom, Alice, and TechnoGeek are my three bots so never show up logged in unless I make these changes.

Thanks peter. I thought of hard coding them in but I thought I would try here first to see if there was another way to do it.

Thanks for the jumpstart on the code though, it's appreciated.

Hi peter..

I have just tried this and it did work to a certain extent lol

Bashy , Tony , jock299 , gibby , ian2494+

(Albeit i think the colour coding here is slightly off for my browser the above is meant to be red, but showing green to me..)

You can see that i have 1 of the Legends installed and my erm, (bot) Sherlock Holmes has appeared above the legend :(

I did follow you instructions but i think its deffo down to the Legend as to why its showing up there lol....

Any ideas please?

PS....why does my browser show these colours as green lol, i did red

EDIT:

I have just had to remove the edit due to my the navbar links on the forumhome no longer work??
Fine any other page just the forum home, even with the edit removed they still dont work?? :(
This appears to be the drop links only!!

peterska2 04-24-2006 11:20 PM

That shouldn't have happened, but I don't have the legend mod installed, so I'm not too sure why this happened.

I have reverted the template bit by bit

I have managed to get the dop links working again :)

There is another issue nothign serious, will explain it when i get in from work :)
Then i will have another go with ya bot/s :)
Have fun

Hi peeps

Finally got sorted, now down to the small issue lol

Ok whilst i was putting back the saved template (i always copy it to notepad before i start) it would not let me save the template at 1st, so what i did was add the code bit by bit and saving each time untill i got the the point it wouldnt let me save, I found out that it will not let me put this bit of code back in, dont know why mind and it aint really important on my forum as theres 2 others ( i assume its the log out link)

here it is...

Code:

<if condition="!$show['guest']">
        <!-- member logout -->
        <td align="$stylevar[right]"><a href="login.php?$session[sessionurl]do=logout&amp;logouthash=$bbuserinfo[logouthash]"  onclick="return log_out()"><phrase 1="$bbuserinfo[username]">$vbphrase[log_out_x]</phrase></a></td>
        <!-- end member logout -->

Aint got a clue why it wont go back in....

peterska2 04-25-2006 09:30 PM

You need an </if> at the end of that code Bashy otherwise it will just complain about errors with the conditionals.

bashy 04-26-2006 05:22 AM

Hi Peter

Yeah sorry i should have shown a bit more i spose lol
I am trying to put it back in between a </td> and the </if> before the last

</tr>
</table>

in the foroumhome, just tried again this morning, it just will not have it lol
If ya look at the version history, it is meant to be there as well, its quite funny really lol.....Like i say, i aint too bothered as it looks like the logout code anyway, but would have been nice to find out why it wont go back :)

Speak tonight :)

Bro_Joey_Gowdy 05-11-2006 09:47 PM

Works great :)

EDIT:
How would one make the bot appear to be online on the bots user profile ?

bashy 05-11-2006 10:05 PM

Hi peter...i got rid of the legend and now its working perfectly :)
Thank you!!
