The nerve of some people

Hello,

I find it amazing what some people do.

A little sample:

http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forums/VBGooglemap.php

Just as if they created it themselves they not only bluntly removed the reference to my work but even replaced it with their own.

Some people wonder why coders start to go commercial.

I release here because I get a lot of respect of the people that do click install on my mods. The only thing I ask for is not to remove the copyright without contacting me.

That cannot be hard to do. In version 2.0.2 I even moved it all the way to the bottom so not the mess up anybodies style or whatever.

But this is getting to me. I feel disrespected.

Not to start a flame war but I (and a lot of other coders) we do give free support in any way we can, involve users in the creation of new features, take on custom request.

The least people can do, is leave the reference intact.

I couldn`t agree more ... you guys do work that I could only dream (at the moment) of having the ability to do, the fact that some people completely disregard, not only copyright, but common curtasy is ridiculous. And to be honest, I recon they gotta lead a fairly sad life to have the need to make themselfs look good LOL ...

Have you contacted there admin?

The world will always have a lot of inconsiderate idiots in it. I knew going into this that anything I release here is 'fair game' to those kinds of people. I do it anyway because I truly enjoy writting hacks for vBulletin. When and if the time comes that I want my code protected, I'll release stuff that isn't free. Just my 2 cents.

Would not consider it 'fair game' m8 ... At the end of the day, your code is protected by copyright law. The only thing copyrighting an item, be it code or not, is the ability to prove where it originated.. A lot of people do this by way of mailing the item to themselves by recorded delivery and never opening it, and therefore having a timestamp proving it`s the original. As a coder you know yourself it can be proven that the original was created by yourself :)

Thats wrong...

Yeah we all may want a credit free look, but I know that it comes with a cost, for which some scripts/hacks I can afford, others I cant, so the credits stay up!

I hope this one person doesnt affect your hacks releases in the future.

Well to be honest it's not the first one that just removed or replaced it.

And even some people claim they don't install just for that reason.

I wonder why vbulletin.org hasn't created a copyright protection policy we can all use.

I would hate to have to integrate a call home function

tbh if someone is abbusing the copyright of a hack coder, they shouldnt be able to download any additional hacks (just remove them from the licensed vb owners group so they cant see the links...)

Offering a little coin for removal of copyright always works for me.
