vB 3.5 Stars Hack
I finally upgraded my vb2/vb3 stars hack to vB 3.5.
What does it do? This extension will show stars under the username in the postbit. Depending on the number of posts the user has made it will show more or less stars. You can specify at which number of posts the user gets a certain type of star. Example. star levels are 3000,300,30,3 (default). If user X has 4278 posts, then this user X will have one 3000-star, four 300-stars, two 30-stars and 6 3-stars. Take a look at the screenshots.. How to install? Import the xml file Upload the 4 star images in the zipfile (either one of the two star sets) to the folder images/stars/ (you will most likely need to create it) Add the following html to your postbit or postbit_legacy template somewhere: Code:
<div>$stars</div> Code:
<if condition="$post['rank']"><div class="smallfont">$post[rank]</div></if> How to use it? If you installed it correctly the stars will show up in the postbit. You can specify the star levels and image names in the Admin CP. You can turn off the extension as well in the Admin CP on the options page. |
looks nice, thanks :)

Having all those different levels of stars is confusing in my opinion.
Can you switch it so that there is only 1 line of stars from 1-5 stars, and the more posts, the more stars and the different the color of star? So, say for example: 100 posts - 1 yellow star 500 posts - 2 yellow stars 800 posts - 3 yellow stars 1000 posts - 4 yellow stars 1100 posts - all stars are removed and replaced with 1 blue star 1500 posts - 2 blue stars etc etc.... down to 10,000 posts - 5 red stars. Something like that? |
Just use the existing User Ranks feature if you want a single line.

toolblast, Brent is right about this.
To clarify: My extension basicly is an addition/replacement to the User Ranks system. Using the User Ranks system to accomplish the same functionality as my extension is probably possible, but if it is, it will require a lot of work to get it working... Above all, my extension will work for any number of posts, it's not limited in any way. |
is there anyway to change the picture? like instead of a star, something else,
|
I think this is a better system than the standard 'Junior Member' etc. A lot of people don't like that. I will play around with this on my dev site.
