Custom Skin

After weeks of searching for designers and coders and then waiting and then tweaking and then testing, and so on and so forth...I'm glad to say that my new design is finished.

So! Let me know what you think -

The good, the bad, whatever...a lot of work (and $) was put into this, so I want to make sure it was well spent and in the right place.

Thanks all!

Hi GTAce,

Personally I don?t like the colours used in the skin the red used for the tcat class is a bit bright for my taste.

I would improve the site a bit by making the width of the forum larger; because you have added a side bar down the side you have lost a lot of space for the forum descriptions.
You should also set the height and width of the ad in the header as people with ad blockers that automatically remove the ad see a broken header with the navigation area not matching up with the rest of the header this also applies to the footer. (see screenshot).

Also restrict user?s avatar sizes to 60 by 60 but that?s just me.

Good luck with the site :)

Thanks,
Mat

Ah! Thanks for the good input, Mat...especially the stuff about the ads, that worries me :surprised:

Regarding the forum width. Originally (pre-design), we wanted a fluid design...but unfortunately didn't think about it throughout the design process. When all was said and done, we did play around with the design to make it 100%, but it just didn't look good on a large resolution - the header didnt look good.

I'm torn on the avatar thing...the vast majority of our members want bigger avatars - but I agree with you, they are big enough, if not too big! 90x90 is huge to me...but since the members like them bigger, we've decided to keep it there.

Nutz, do you mind telling me which Ad Blocker you use?

I'm going to look at that later and it will help to have something to refer to.

Thanks

I run: http://adblock.mozdev.org/ with http://www.pierceive.com/ that automatically updates blocked sites on Firefox.

Thanks,
Mat

Nice style. Although is there a reason why you're squashing the tables in such a small fixed width table? Make the table width bigger, use more space on the page and let your forums look a lot less cramped.

I have to agree, here. The color scheme isn't that inviting. Neat header structure, though.

Are you referring to the overall width? If so, I've already acknowledged that in the third post in this thread.

pcoskat - yes, I agree that the red is a bit overwhelming, and we are in fact working on alternate color combinations right now...namely a light blue color scheme to please that crowd :p

Personally, I like the colors scheme of your avatar. It's striking without being 'over the top'. It's also very distinct. I 'recognize' you instantly on any of the boards we both frequent...

To me, your avatar, has become your brand...

GTAce 04-05-2006 12:28 AM

Indeed.

We were working on a second color scheme similar to my avatar but it was not very popular...we also hit another hangup. Anyways, we might create a new color scheme later on that reflects my avatar, who knows.
