$username calls the users username

For a pratical joke this april fools, is there a way to call the users username if they are logged in via $username in the thread title and the post?

I tried using what was posted here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...light=username

But whenever I tried to create a new thread it said I needed to post more then 5 characters to make a thread.
