Who installed

CAn't you guys create a feature to see who installed our hacks? That would be cool

ericgtr 03-27-2006 05:49 PM

It shows in the postbit whether or not a users who's posted in your hack/thread has installed it or not. I just learned this myself. :)

EDIT: beat to the first part

Well, this feature kind of already exists, but not really to the extent that you are talking about it, I don't think. If somebody replies in your thread and they have installed it, it will say so in their user info...but then again you probably already know this and I am just rambling on :)

I agree, it would be nice to be able to pull up a page for your mod that lists who has installed it.

^^ I'll second that.

Yeah I know I can see it in postbit. But if someone installs and doesn post?

This has been asked over and over again. It won't be happening due to privacy and security issues.

AKA Paranoia :)

Code Monkey 03-28-2006 01:54 AM

Privacy and Security issues? Since when is it a security issue to know who is using your copyrighted code and hours of hard work?

BamaStangGuy 03-28-2006 02:02 AM

and where does the privacy part come from if it can be seen in their post?

Paul M 03-28-2006 02:35 AM

The thinking goes like this ;

1. If you can see who installed it then you can hack all their boards with the crafty back door you incorporated.

2. By posting in the thread the installer is making the decision that they don't mind the author knowing they have installed it (but presumably they are still free to make use of that backdoor ..... ).

Don't laugh - it's all true - those are (afaik) the actual reasons.

Paranoia rules. :)
