Are any of you guys that are listed on bigboards running communities that have little to no advertising? Communities that sustain themselves from donations or other methods?

Most of the sites I've seen have a lot of advertising. Do you run advertisements at guests but not registered users? Did any of you start out not wanting ads on your site and then change your mind? (and if so, why'd you change your mind?
