Fed up with...

I feel that installing 3.5 vbulleting on my website was my biggest mistake. Ever since, i am facing new problems day by day. But my biggest problems would have to do with the whole process been used by the vbulletin system. I've changed 4 hosting providers so far, and i thought it was always their fault for these problems, until i bought a Virtual Private Server recently and now, i have the same problems!

It seems that vb3.5 is heavy on servers, as i am running a large board with some extra features like arcades, chat and gallery

Is there a way to downgrade to a previous version other than vb3.5.x ?

If i export tables via impex or something...and install vb3.0.9 and import?

What exactly is your bottlenext? The sql database speed? The bandwith used? There are a few compression and optimisation hacks about you might want to try.

You have to realize that the majority of hacks coded on this site performance wise are poorly coded; and as you stack them it will progressively get worse Specially on large sites.

Vbulletin itself however is not that intensive, IF you make the proper modifications in the Option Configuration.

Feel free to AIM me at Trigunflame / MSN at trigunflame@msn.com if you want more information.

How large is your board?

I started having the EXACT same problems you speak of, as my membership got over 25,000. The servers just couldn't keep up. BUT I realized the problem was in the server configuration, and to a certain extent the optimization of the board.

You need a host who knows precisely what they're doing to support your large board. I was with two very expensive hosting companies and they were clueless. Now I'm with a company that isn't 'cheap', but they are reasonable for what I need, and now with over 30,000 members, my server is handling my traffic without breaking a sweat.

ETA
I have a ton of mods and hacks, too.

Are you sure the problem is with vBulletin and not with your hacks?

As mentioned by Trigunflame, because of the open nature of the vBulletin.org website, just about anyone can write a vBulletin hack and make it available for others to use. As a result, there may be hacks that can significantly slow down your system.

i am using only, ibproarcade, flashchat, and vbShout... these hacks seem to work well on other boards i've seen :|

i am starting to think about the vbshout... it is on the forumhome...does it open a connection for all members browsing the forumhome? If this is true, then vbshout is not suitable for large boards

Do you mean the site listed in your profile ?

Because if you do, then you must have a big problem somewhere because that site should easily run on a small server.

but it doesnt! :( that is what troubles me... Before i had 5.000 members on vb3.0.7 but after a 'problem' with a hosting company, i've installed from scratch vb3.5 and even with 1.700 members it seems too heavy on the server :|

Ha! Thats definately the problem. VBShout is a HUGE resource hog. Turn down the updates and the performance will improve.
