Herp Center - Reptile Forums

Hello,

I have never bothered to get an opinion of my site here. I am always looking for advice and ways to improve the site, so feel free to toss some opinions out there.

My sites url is: http://www.herpcenter.com

I think you need to make the 'forums' link on your portal page a bit more visible and that. It took me a while to find the link. Although I didn't know about that javascript menu on the side there until after I got to the forums. ;)

Style is pretty nice. I'm not a fan of how you structured your forum but as long as you and your members like it, fine by me.

Hello,

Thanks for the input Tony. I agree with the forum link. I am so use to the site and how i created it, everything is second nature to me. I think I will wrap the forum link with an if condition and have it display differently on the homepage and have the "home" link display differently on the forum page.

That layout was the cleanest I could come up with. lol We house forums for almost every species of reptile, so as you can likely guess, thats a lot of forums. I condensed them as much as possible while still displaying the info users are accustomed to seeing.

As a herp owner myself, I have been following this website for some time. Infact, I was thinking about starting my own forums dedicated to this type of thing before I found it.

While I still find it a bit confusing to browse through, it is a huge improvement from the last style that was being used.

You also have a very friendly community, which I admire.

Hello,

Thanks KT! The site was aimed at being friendly. If you frequent any other reptile sites, the atmosphere we have created is pretty unique. The bashing and kid games has no place on the site and has not been an issue for us.

Once I finish the 2 sites I am working on, I will be going ahead once more and seeking a better navigational structure. With that many forums, its pretty tough. lol

I definately agree that it's tough with that many forums. :)

I am looking forward to it, you have the knowledge that it takes to run a website like this.. I hope it all ends up going as well as it has so far.

Hello,

I was thinking of creating categories for the homepage and break the structure down one more level. This way, the forumhome is condensed and each category will be clean.I was also thinking of adding some drop menus to the category headers containging the next level of the structure so they can skip a level. :D
