Mod request to kill smilies in a stealth style

Pretty much sums it up. Now I did actually kill the smilies in the style by creating a variable replacement and just changing the path to the smilies, essentially killing them.

But what I really want is to keep the code for the smilies intact, just not show the actual images. I'm not looking to make this a user option or anything. I just want them gone in one particular style.

Ideas?
