Add Feed To MyYahoo, Msn, Google & Blogline Button In Every Forum

Actually its my first release in vbulletin.org . Its not a hack even. Just a template modification to provide Rss feed to forums user. Since last few month we have been searching it for many place. Didn't find any. After our try finally we came into a shape. A working shape. Also find some also looking for it.So just shareing it.

Hope Some one may find it helpful.

Note:
This modification can be called as an extension of Show Forum Icon In Each Forum, hack by Wayne Luke. This must be installed in your forum. That will show ur all forums feed url & this url u will be needed later on. Now made a list all of ur feed urls.

How To Use This Modification:
--------------------------------

1.Rss/Rss2 Mustbe enabled to use this modification.
2.Rss Auto discovery should be enabled for better out put. So that search bot could detect ur feed.
3.Show Forum Icon In Each Forum, hack by Wayne Luke, must be installed.

How To Enable Rss Auto Discovery:
---------------------------------
Source: http://www.google.com/webmasters/bot.html

Question:
Quote:

How do I add my feed to the search results for Google's personalized homepage and Google Reader?
Answer:
Quote:

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Your Feed Title" href="http://www.mysite.com/rss.xml" />
1.You will be needed a rss.xml file. You can generate it using any source (like i use www.rorweb.com). Be sure that during create the list u've listed all of ur feed url (previously u have saved it!!). Generate the list copy-paste it in note pad, save as it as "rss.xml"
2.Put that rss.xml file in your root directory. This should get the location www.mysite.com/rss.xml

Its now time to modify/edit ur template :

1. Adding autoDiscovery:

Open ur headincludes template.

Put at the very top of all code:
HTML Code:

  <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Your Feed Title" href="http://www.mysite.com/rss.xml" />
2. Adding My yahoo, My Msn, Google & Bloglines button to your forum for each catagory:

Open FORUMDISPLAY template.

Find for:
HTML Code:

$footer
Add above:
HTML Code:

<div align="center"><a href="http://e.my.yahoo.com/config/cstore?.opt=content&.url=http://www.mysite.com/forum/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=$foruminfo[forumid]" target="_blank"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/addyahoo.gif" alt="Add mysite To Your Yahoo" height="15" width="80" border="0"></a> <a href="http://www.google.com/ig/add?feedurl=http://www.mysite.com/forum/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=$foruminfo[forumid]" target="_blank"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/addgoogle.gif" alt="Add mysite To Your Google" height="15" width="80" border="0"></a> <a href="http://my.msn.com/addtomymsn.armx?id=rss&ut=http://www.mysite.com/forum/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=$foruminfo[forumid]" target="_blank"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/addmsn.gif" alt="Add mysite To Your MSN" height="15" width="80" border="0"></a> <a href="http://www.bloglines.com/sub/http://www.mysite.com/forum/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=$foruminfo[forumid]" target="_blank"><img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/addblog.gif" alt="Add mysite To Your Blog" height="15" width="80" border="0"></a></div>
Quote:

Don't forget to replace mysite.com with ur site.
3. You can put can xml button in ur home page that linked with ur www.mysite.com/rss.xml

4. You will find related image in the zip folder. Just upload these to /images/misc directory. This button we used in our site, just make the button a bit tiny ;). Feel free to change them as per ur demand. We tried to add original & modified button.

that would indeed be an awesome feature! Perhaps 'Shoutwire' would be a nice addition as well. Thanks for the release!

This hack looks great, but I'm not certain how the list should appear when I use ROR. Could you provide a sample here for forum URL's?

allow me to assist u..Hope u allready have installed "show rss icon in every forum by wane luke"
u wanna generate an rss.xml file that include all the rss url of ur board..

what we do:

-i manually collect all the rss url of all forum
-went to www.feedburner.com , n burned all the url, modify it as necessary
-collect all the burned url from feedburner.
-Open http://www.rorweb.com/servlet/roredit
- put ur site's name = Klik Enter.
-now u will see the page, u put all the burned feed url here
- u r done.

copy n paste the file rss.xml
its done.

Okay. Now why use feedburner.
feedburner makes the urls suitable for rss1,rss2,xml,atom , whoever try to feed it...it will be fit for his rss reader/atom/blogentry

Hope It s the answer of ur question.

Thnkx.

btw u can check the uses of it.

Right, maybe there's a prob with Wayne's hack or with fps_external, not sure. I'm currently troubleshooting over in Wayne's thread and will resume troubleshooting here once that's resolved. Still open to input if you have any.
