Force people not to use - as the first or last character of their username

Is it possible for me to force people not to use - as the first or last character during registration? I would like for them to use it for their name anywhere else but not infront or at the end of whatever username they came up with.

The reason I asked is because I set my members profile links to be username.mysite.com and people with - at the beginning or at the end of their name profile links dont work

Please I hope someone can help me with that and I think it should have been the default for vbulletin.

thats the way I had it at first and it didn't work. I am using vbseo and for some reason, it will replace - as space and also replace a space for -

I think they restricted the usage of - for username since that character is being used to seperate words or links and url parts.

ya it works but is someone have a user name call -username1 or username2-, and then then there is another user call username3... Now if someone click on either -username1 or username2-, they will be taken to username3 profile page instead of either -username1 or username2- profile.

How can I disallow the use of "-" so that people wont be able to use that on their username when they register?
