Blog Question: parse content vs. leave as text

I just had a discussion with some programmers/designers.
I hope you'll take part of this.

Please note: There is no wrong answer ... just curious on what you think.

Please answer the below as an administrator of site and as an end-user (user viewing site).

On a member's blog (eg. member's have own blog within site) ...
would you prefer to see content parsed on member's entry listing page* or partial content (limited characters)** displayed on listing page?

NOTE: Yes, there is a link provided to read more (show parsed content) and to comment.

* all content (inc. bbcode) will be parsed and displayed on listing page
** partial content displayed on listing page - content is not parsed and bbcode/html/etc is stripped

... just trying to stir some conversation :)

My choice would be to shorten the content on the index/entry page.
That makes things more "cleanep up" IMO, better to browse through everything.

But leave all BBCodes intact, breaking/stripping the layout/formatting of text doesn't look nice either IMO.

I dig the way PhpNuke handles it:
You have two text areas to fill: a "teaser" that's shown on the list page and the "real" content shown together with the teaser on the page of the entry.

And I would not see how or why my administrative view on that would be different ;)

as an administrator, I want to use less resources which means just text (a summary of content--no bbcode/attachments) ... and direct readers to parsed content / comments ... content displays faster and less resources are used

as the blog owner and/or reader, I would like to see all content (bbcode/attachments) parsed on index page ... less work -- no need to click "read more" to read entire content

that's actually a good idea ... it never occurred to me to combine the summary with the content on entry page ... ahhh, a bonus as this is the writing style that I prefer ...
NOTE TO SELF: (summary) ? append to message : false;

thanks for the feedback :tired: :ninja:

Anyway, I decided on showing all content.

REASONS:
  1. 'owner' can have multiple categories; thus, 'owner' will control how much content is in any given category
  2. title and comments are now cached (thumbnail view is now controlled via permission settings)
attached is an 'entry w/comments' page

well since we are not talking about an index index but rather the landing page inside blog i would full parsing. by index i assumed you meant a listing of all blogs not just one blog. if within a blog i think best is full parsing.

yes, index-main page of owner's blog (eg. entries posted by owners)

thanks
