Help! How do I get more hits on search engines?

Hi,

Ok, I've installed my forum and added a few hacks. I have a growing and happy community. I would now like the forum to pop up more on the search engines..

I've read stuff on creating site maps etc but I dont know where to start... Would you kindly provide me with a road map of what I need to do please.

E.g

Step 1: Install this hack: hack 1
Step 2: Install this hack Hack 2
etc...

Thanks

Ben

- Meta tags, keywords, ect.
- allow guest to view what you want a spider to view.
- make sure there are not tons of errors in HTML code that may stop a spider.

The best tool to find what you need here is:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/search.php?

Select: vB3.5 Modifications (before search)
(there are 3-4 ver of the forums out there, this will limit your search to VB 3.5x)

There are a few out there.

I have looked at some things about google searching which I assume to be the most important search engine. 1 thing it says is to make sure your site description has to do with what your site does. It says that some of these engines look at the first 5-6 words and basis some things off of that. Also get your site out on other members sites. Linking can sometimes bring your ranking up dramtically

Thanks guys for the feedback. BTW I always use the search feature before I bother anyone with questions :)

Cheers
