Less Restrictive Word Censorship

Am not trolling... originally posted this in the wrong froum (in VB2) because I didn't look properley. If someone could delete the other threrad, would appreciate it.

Anyway, here goes...

I hope someone can help on the censorship/word replacement, have looked through the older threads, but most seem to deal with complete word replacement using variable replacement (which I am a tad nervous about) or simply changing the censorship characters...

What I'd like is a censorship feature, that censors pre-defined words, but not so that you can't actually tell what they are.

For instance if someone typed:

Manchester

what I'd like to see is

M********r

This way, people can identify the intent in the post, but won't suffer from the trauma of seeing the words manchester (replace with any suitable offensive word - although Manchester is pretty bad where I come from... )

I suppose I could simply put 'ancheste' without brackets into the admin censorship section, but my problem there if i block out bits of words in order to get selective censorship, there are occasions where the same combination of letters exist in a non-offensive word that i might want.

Eg.

If someone entered... (apologies for any offence, simply for research purposes...)

b a s t a r d - what I'd like to see is b*****d

Now, if I censored 'astar' in roder to acheive the above, then if someone entered dastardly (for example) then that would appear as d*****dley, which is not what I want.

What I'd like s somewhere that I can enter the word that is offensive and show what the replacement word is.

Again, any help appreciated.

Just wondering if anyone might have an idea hw this could be done... thanks in advance...

You could use the replacement variable manager in your template/style options. Be careful though as this will also replace any HTML on your board ... ie do not replace words containing things like font, script, div etc.
