What am i missing?? newbie needs help

I'm trying to do what should be a simple task of increasing event reminder email from the defaults included in vbulletin to 7 and 14 days. I'm a total newbie to this and haven't really got much idea but I'd assumed as the reminder system was already there it should be easy enough to alter the values. its my first go at php and code so i thought it might be the best way to start learning

So far I've crated new phrases for seven_days and fourteen_days, amended calender_reminder and calendar_reminder_choosetype with this code

Code:

<optgroup label="$vbphrase[update_reminders]">
                                <option value="3600">$vbphrase[one_hour]</option>
                                <option value="7200">$vbphrase[two_hours]</option>
                                <option value="10800">$vbphrase[three_hours]</option>
                                <option value="14400">$vbphrase[four_hours]</option>
                                <option value="21600">$vbphrase[six_hours]</option>
                                <option value="28800">$vbphrase[eight_hours]</option>
                                <option value="43200">$vbphrase[twelve_hours]</option>
                                <option value="64800">$vbphrase[eighteen_hours]</option>
                                <option value="86400">$vbphrase[one_day]</option>
                                <option value="172800">$vbphrase[two_days]</option>
                                <option value="259200">$vbphrase[three_days]</option>
<option value="604800">$vbphrase[seven_days]</option>
<option value="1209600">$vbphrase[fourteen_days]</option>
                        </optgroup>

And in includes/function_calendar.php

PHP Code:

$reminders = array(

'3600'   => 'one_hour',

'7200'   => 'two_hours',

'10800'  => 'three_hours',

'14400'  => 'four_hours',

'21600'  => 'six_hours',

'28800'  => 'eight_hours',

'43200'  => 'twelve_hours',

'64800'  => 'eighteen_hours',

'86400'  => 'one_day',

'172800' => 'two_days',

'259200' => 'three_days',

'604800' => 'seven_ days',

'1209600' => 'fourteen_ days',
);

But still can't get emails to send, can anyone please tell me what other files or templates need modifying for this to work. Once I know which ones are involved I'll be able to slowly work through it myself i hope.

I know I'm getting closer as it now shows a blank space in user Cp>event reminders where previously it defaulted to 1 hour
TIA
