Can you have a wee nosey and see where I should try and improve my site. Probably guessing should work more on my skin.

A few things I'd change:

- Strip the compression stats, or make them something like light gray. The black makes them stand out against the background, and it's the first thing that caught my eye when I logged in.

- You have a random row of nothing at the bottom, under the mark forums read/forum leaders text, with this icon: http://www.irishleagueforums.net/for...l_posticon.gif preceding it. I'm not sure what it's supposed to be doing, but there's nothing at all in the row.

Other than that, it looks great. :) You definitely put some work into it.

/cheers :D

Your portal loads very slow. I think you need to work on making it faster loading and lowering the query count.

I also think the dark blue behind the banner image is a bit too bright and intense for the scheme. If you changed it to the same shade of blue you use for the category bar it'd look better.

Thanks guys some useful tips there, will work on it.

Nice forum there, where did you get that skin?

It aint really a skin, just been modifying the default skin as I went along.

Really nice site! :)

On the portal page, the boxes look a little to close. It looks all like one big box at first glance.

I really like the pictures on the category strips. Did you do that yourself or did you use a vB hack to do that? I hope you don't mind if I "borrow" that idea ;)

Just switch HTML on for that catagory and then put the code in instead of a title. It wasnt a hack.

it's a good start..

however, it took a while to load

PROBLEMS:
  • header has to be replaced ... too big with "nothing to show"; and, a bad font choice
  • the news layout is poor ... there is nothing there that "grabs" attention ... what's the little image icon about?
  • "Module Jump" - do you really think the average surfer knows what this means? Is that a dropdown menu on something that should be clearly visible to the visitor?
The only thing on the portal page that works is the LATEST PICS section. I recommend moving this to the top but remove all the crap below it (eg. name, title, comments, etc). The colors and "action" found in these pics convey excitement. This is exactly the kind of mood that you want to create!

Cheers ... made some changes following your recommendations. I never really concentrated much on the portal as put most of time into the forum, not many more hacks I can really do to it now.
