I?m getting frustrated?I could use some advice.

I have a large forum ? well over a million posts with 136K members. It?s a great place ? but I find that every single freakin time I need to make a change to Forum Permissions or a change to a forum period (edit the name, add/change the description or delete) the site stops responding.

First and foremost, I am not a coder ? I?m not a programmer ? heck I?m not even a sysadmin. I was hired as ?Community Director? to work with the forums, improve them and grow them ? while working with a sysadmin, coder and programmer.

I?m finding my job increasingly hard to do ? because every time I need to make a change, I have to wait for our Sysadmin to be available, because he has to kick the server. He tells me that there is no server load problem and that everything looks wonderful on his end?so he says it?s not a server issue that its got to be some kind of coding issue.

I just need to be able to edit/delete/reorg/work with the 600 or so forums we have going ? without having to work around my sysadmin schedule, which is pretty jam packed full with other stuff he has to work on.

What can I tell my programmer/coder?s to look at/look for? Has anyone else had this problem?

We?ve also got a problem with our search function. If you do a search of someone?s post history either from Advanced Search or by clicking the link in their profile, it doesn?t pull the most recent posts ? it pulls old ones?any hints on that? If anyone needs a visual on what I?m talking about here, PM me for Test Account Info and the URL.

I feel silly for posting ? but everyone seems to think that an ?upgrade? to 3.5.3 will fix the problem and that I should wait ? but it took them almost two years to get us upgraded to 3.0.6 (current version we?re using) and I don?t want to wait another two years :)

Is it possible that there is a conflict or incompadibility issue with our version of php/Mysql and our version of vB that is causing this?

We are running version 3.0.6 vB, 5.1.0b3 php and 4.1.11 Mysql...

Any tips here would be great :)
