Two forums share members with a twist
I've read a lot of people wanting to be able to share memberships within two different forums. It sounds interesting to me but with it, you'll probably get a lot of members who aren't interested in being a member of the other forum. So this is what I was thinking.
Let's say you have a forum with a user base and you're launching the new forum. You tell your members that they can sign up at the new forum but instead, give them the option to press a "Join" button that automatically registers them with their user account from the old forum on the new forum, too. Would this be possible? |
Sounds good, but what about keeping the two in sync?

I can't see that working, as it's a case of share the user table or don't. If you do then it has exactly the same users on both sites - no exceptions. If you don't then it's two registrations.
Sorry about that. |
Thanks for the feedback guys. Well, I modified my registration forms so registration isn't really that big of a deal.
I wonder if I could create a special registration form for members of the other forum so they can register but not have to verify their e-mail. Then any new members who aren't members of either forum go through the default registration where they must verify e-mail. I'm sure that must be possible. |
