You can use a workaround that is to make your own subforum template and have it fetched if it's the correct forum view, this is what I've done.

I wasn't going to just try it 1st if it said 3.5.3 then i would not of made the post.

Anything that says 3.5.x and is template based works on all versions of 3.5

Anything that says 3.5.x and is code based should work on all versions of 3.5 but read the whole thread first in case anyone has experienced any problems.
