can submitting your website to free directories harm your site or does it benefit it.

It depends on where you post it and the nature of your website. Don't place you link on any site that seems suspect and you should be fine.

Say for example you run a site dealing with anime, placing your site in a link directory on a larger anime site would bring in some good traffic for you. Now if you placed it on a porn site you might be in for some users you don't want. :)

my site is soccer related and the directories ive been submitting to have there own categories ie sport > soccer> so i have been putting the site here it seems ok from what ive seen.
