Ok, some computer guru should be able to solve this......

So here is what is happening to me.

I work at an office where there is a LAN. I have full access to the net via the PC work provides. Although I can't download or anything because of lack of admin privies.

Ok, here is the deal. I plug my personal laptop into another jack that I know works fine, set the internet options to match my office pc. (lan settings) and nothing happens.

The weirdest part is that it worked fine up until about 3 months ago. I was able to log right on at work if I altered my proxy settings. Now nothing.

What gives?

A shiny apple for the first person that solves this dilemia.

my best guess would be its been set to only accept the office OS copies or OEM software.

Possible mac id DHCP, or its more than possible theres also another setting in the DHCP that won't assign you access to the network.

If you are not sposed to be doing it, don't.

Ditto.

Have you tried releasing the IP and renewing to see if the network is assigning you one? Is this a small office that may only have enough IPs for the amount of computers in the office? In such a case, you may need to wait 15 minutes for the IP to become available to be assigned to your laptop. It could also be that the admin has mac filtering enabled on the firewall or only alow so many IPs to be given out at once which would refer to the above.

Can you post a copy of your laptop's 'ipconfig' results?

Go to Start-->Run, type in "cmd", press enter. Then type in 'ipconfig /all' (sans quotes) and press enter.

Copy/paste whatever shows up here.

Very likely, there may be a MAC ID filter on the router. It is also possible that a server-side firewall is filtering packets, if you're trying to use different programs to access the net.
