How to show a welcome avatar

How can I show a welcome avatar above the 'Welcome back, username' message when I login? I remember in 3.0.x, I could use the code $welcomeavatar but that doesn't work now in 3.5.x.

My forum is iconrate.net/community. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
