I'd have to guess custom. :) not all websites use premade hacks. Chances are its theres and you won't ever be able to get it.

This sucks. I can't understand admins who don't share their hacks
I don't personally need this but it makes me mad to hear about admins who don't share  I can understand it if somebody doesn't want to share a style, I don't share my styles too as they are a thing that defines a forum's character but I find it disgusting that they don't want to share hacks, especially in non-profit sites
I can't understand it. I just can't.

Stephen3 12-24-2005 01:27 AM

can some body clone the hack? :surprised:

romow 12-24-2005 02:31 AM

i don't understand why you don't understand it. you think styles can define a forum, but hacks do not? what the.... i can think of so many ways to make my forum unique by using custom hacks.
the hack is their own intellectual property. they have every right to keep it to themselves, or sell it for fee. i do not find it disgusting at all.

Of course they have every right to keep it but I still find it disgusting if they use hacks from here and they don't release theirs.
If you don't release a style probably you don't also use one from here (that's my case, I've never given a style to the community but didn't use one from here either).
If they don't use hacks from here that's fine, but I think they suck when they only install other people's hacks and don't give their hacks.

romow 12-24-2005 02:52 AM

i completely disagree with your logic.

you said since you don't release a style, you don't use one from here.
but you technically "can" if you want to. so it does not make you any less disgusting.

"they suck because they install other people's hacks but don't give theirs."
if i ever used any open-source program, do i have to release all my precious custom codes in return? i respect those people who release their code voluntarily. but I do NOT blame those folks who do not. open your eyes to the real world.

Have you ever heard of the word "morality"?
Probably not.

And it doesn't matter if I technically can use a style from here. What does matter is that I don't.
"Technically" I can also go and kill somebody. According to your logic I should go to jail.

romow 12-24-2005 03:12 AM

again, if i ever used 10-line of open-source code, do i have to release my 1000-line of custom code to fulfill the "morality" spirit? i don't think so.
(i do not mean to downgrade all the free vb hacks out there)

you can also blame the vb author for selling it for fee even when they have been using other free bulletin boards for one way or another. :D

If you feel that the "morality" spirit is an obligation then don't release your code. Most people release hacks because they like to help people, not because they feel they have to. I just consider people like you selfish and disgusting (assuming that you don't release your hacks but use other's hacks). That's just my personal opinion, why do you care about it so much?
Oh and by the way, there are free hacks with 1000+ lines of code. ;)
You can't teach a person to be moral, they have to feel like it.
Just imagine if every bulletin board owner thought the same way as you do.
Afterwards, imagine if every bulletin board owner thought the same way as I do.
Which would be better? ;)

(damn, I wish I could answer in greek. There so much things I would like to say but can't due to language knowledge limitations :()
