Allow users to sticky their own threads
What This Does
This little add-on allows you to give selected usergroups permission to sticky their own threads when they create them. Installation Unzip the zip file, and put bitfield_selfstick.xml in /forum/includes/xml then install the Product XML as normal. Limitations Users can only sticky their threads when they are creating them, they cannot go back and sticky them once they have been posted. Also, users cannot un-stick their threads. Important: Unfortunately, my leased vBulletin licence has now expired, and I won't be renewing it until September which means I will be unable to reply to this thread, or update this mod until then. I'm hopeful that the great vBulletin.org community will step in to answer any questions in my absence though :) See you all in early September! :D |

Thanx, But No Way...lol

Obviously you wouldn't want to give all users access to sticky their posts, but it can be useful :) For example:
You have 3 trusted members who write good Tutorials which you regularly have to Sticky for them. You could create a new usergroup, give this new usergroup permission to self-sticky their threads, then add it to the 3 trusted users as a secondary usergroup. Saves you having to Sticky their future tutorial posts :) Or, perhaps you have a subscription that you sell that allows members to self-sticky advertising threads for x days - it could be useful for that :) |
oo, this would be a good donating member perk too.
Nice one Alan :) |
"Also, users cannot un-stick their threads." So once they're stuck, they cannot ever unstick them?
Here's another idea similar to this. Allow the user to stick threads that only they see stuck. This allows them to re-arrange the threads and place those that are important to them stuck at the top. |
What about doing it in a way that the user can stick their prefered threads but only that user can see those threads stuck.. that would be useful to keep favorites threads on top :) and when they don't like it anymore, then have the ability to un-stick them.

nice hack, but it could be a bad idea ... at least for my site. Members flood the forum with page and pages of sticky threads. :D

As .Tim mentioned, there is already a "favourite threads made sticky" type hack, so I won't be adding anything like that to this one.
This hack is purely for allowing users to sticky their own threads (usergroup access controlled of course) :) |
