Max number of images (Counting Smileys ???)

I run a Photography forum.

Many peoples post images and we set the max to 4 because of some 56k users.

The problem is that when someone post 4 images and put some smileys in the same post this person gets an error saying that there is too many images in the post.

Is there a way to set that to only count the [IMG] tags ?
