Importing the DB from phpbb and installing hacks

I am importing my phpbb board to vbulletin.. I have already bought my license..

I have downloaded lots of hacks from vbulletin.org

I plan to install many like Award system, arcade, advanced reputation system etc.. Am i supposed to import the database first and then install the hacks or install the hacks first and then run impex and import the DB??

I prefer installing the hacks first and then running impex.. But will the awards system, advanced reputation system etc apply to the imported users?

So can i first install all the hacks and then import?

I would always suggest to first import and then slowly add the hacks you want.

PS You should run a test import/hack install first.

I cringe whenever I read that somebody is installing and then hacking straight away. I think users need to get familier with how the base code runs before they start tinkering. Plus, if something goes wrong with your installation, you're ineligible for official support if you've hacked the board.

I suggest installing and running for a week or so with an un-hacked board. Learn how to use the templates and the stock features. Then, expand and add the bells and whistles.

I agree with amy 110% on that one.

There is a tremendous difference between phpbb and VB and it will take time to adjust to.

Yeh i have been working with vbulletin on my localhost for abt a month now..

I am quite familiar with the admin panel.. I installed the arcade, vbradio, yet another award system, created new templates etc on my localhost.. Even imported from phpbb..

My question was.. for my final board (which will go online) should i run impex first or vice versa..

What i am gonna do now is.. First upload a board, run impex.. import.. then install all the hacks..

Can i update my users and posts again after i install the hacks?? The problem is i will have to shut down my board for 1 week (atleast) else there will loads of new posts and newly registered users..

Tell me the best way to do all this.. :)

Thanks in advance

You should be able to do the move in a couple of hours, if you practised on a testboard first.

Never start with the hacks. If you run into any problem with ImpEx, you can not get support if your board has hacks. Make a good backup before installing any hack.

Thanks mate.. Yeh.. i know the basics of istalling a hack (i have worked on phpbb long enough) and in phpbb its a hack for everything.. Even for a attachement its a hack.. So i do know the basics like the need to take backups before installing etc.. :)

Anywayz thanks a lot for reminding me..
