Maybe if you gave examples of how this could be useful, someone might realise that something they are working on could use this.

Well, say you are making a dynamic site that uses a foreign language. If you are really at it, you might not like that dates are displayed in english. Plus, dates such as "x [timeunit][s] ago" are much easier to read than, say, 04.06.2007.
