Selecting x when you edit your profile displays x picture

What i'd like to do is use conditionals to allow my users to select x checkbox, and the corresponding image to x is displayed in their profile...how should I go about that? I have some skills at this...but basically i'm a newbie :p so talk slow :rolleyes:
