Nothing More Orginal

Then when you help someone out only to have them attempt to steal your idea, and produce it faster than you. But whats worse is when they half assed copy you and your ideas.

Then you have to deal with competeting with them until you put them out of their sorry exisitance. Anyone else have this happen?

You've got an idea for a site, your working on it, helping a friend with his site, then all of a sudden he's got the same thing???

And you're like WTF.

Somebody cloned your site?

More or less a concept site. Maybe my own fault for poking at it with a stick.

I'm not to worried, becuase they don't have the business plan or people behind it I do. We have a game plan, we have been writting code, and we already have sponsors in place etc.

But they just kinda did the half hazzard clone so they can claim fame.

I find it to be rather lame in deed.

The best part is buying up all there surrounding domian names becuase you have the cash and then backordering their domains :)

The concept of an original idea is no more. It is the thoughts of implementation that seperates one from another.

amykhar 11-22-2005 11:21 AM

Yeah, concepts belong to anybody. But, it's still a lousy thing to do to a friend or to somebody who has been helping you on something. It's not illegal. Just rude.

Sadly, examples of stuff this this are all too common. "Friends" who go behind your back with your clients to negotiate their own deals, "friends" who take your ideas as their own, "friends" who think nothing about taking advantage of your friendship and usually do it because of money.

My experience has been that "friends" are usually only friends as long as money isn't involved. Lend a friend money, don't expect it back and asking for it will probably mean you are no longer friends. If a friend senses an opportunity to make money, they'll more often than not take it regardless of your relationship.

Do I sound jaded? Yep. But after giving friends the benefit of the doubt over and over, I finally learned that business is business and along with money has no place in a friendship. Rarely do the two mingle and only now with strict agreements in place. Oh, and I only lend money to friends with no expectation of getting paid back. Saves the headaches later and makes for a nice suprise when I do get repaid.

Yup, I think this is something a lot of us have probably suffered, whether internet related or in the outer world.

I had some right classic cases from when I used to work for a company a while back and i'd be constantly throwing idea's into the pot and planning things and designing new stuff, yet almost everytime, this other pillock kept claiming all the credit for himself, trying to get browny points, it kind of backfired in the end though, cause as soon as I left, he suddenly didn't have any idea's at all and soon got into a lot of trouble for it.

I've had it endless times on the net though, where you help someone out with setting their site up because they haven't got a clue where to begin with setting up something simple like vBulletin, the next thing you know, they start spamming your users and emailing them asking them to join their forum as it's better than yours and funnily enough, you look at their forum sections, smilies, half their images and in cases their content and you don't have to think very hard where it came from...

Some people seem to think that everything is theirs and that the months and years of hard work you put into your work should be theirs by rights when ever they see fit to take it and use it themselves. Rather than putting in their own work, making their own site and having their own mark on the net.

For 3yrs i'd managed to get away with not having to use anti-leeching tools on my sites, but recently I suddenly saw my bandwidth useage shoot up by about 300% for no reason, so on checking, I found that someone had pretty much used my entire site as a clone, not even bothering to save any of my images to their own server... Mind you, I sharp put a stop to that one and I found the results hilarious, with the nice effect of 800x600 bandwidth thief images on the guilty site. ;)

Ahh, more just kicking myself for rather poking at it with a stick rather than really being deciated to it.

Vtec44 11-23-2005 03:38 AM

A while ago, someone asked me to help him with his site. I told him no because it would be a conflict of interest with my own site. Well, we are no longer friends after that LOL
