Member map?
 

I remember a couple of years back for YaBB SE there was a mod that allowed members to place a pin on a world map hosted on the site, showing where they were from - the pin image would show the member profile info, etc.

Has there ever been anything like this for vbulletin, and would anyone think it's possible to make such a mod?

Thanks for the info - but I'd rather not use a third-party app like Google Maps, especially the two major reasons for it to exist are to datamine users and provide advertising to them.

Surely it's not going to be that hard to set up a world map image for setting up? I mean, if YaBB SE can easily do it as a mod then it can't be too difficult a challenge, can it?

If you don't use google adsense how is google going to advertise to them?

I, Brian is a bit of a conspiracy theorist from what I've seen in his past discussions on various subjects. ;)

I'd love it to be as simple as being a conspiracy theorist - when Google was just a technology company doing search privacy wasn't too much of an issue as it was offering only limited services.

However, since then Google have released a barrage of free tools whose purpose is to effective record user behaviour to datamine for advertising purposes - email, desktop search, personalised homepage, base, Google Analytics, etc. They reserve the right to use all data how they want within the company.

Some people are fine with that. Personally, I think they need to update their privacy policy to reflect their increased range of services.

But back on topic - it would be a real shame if we didn't see a member map developed for vbulletin.

I've been looking for something like this forever.

All I need is a map of the world and allow my users to pin THEIR OWN location on it. I don't want their location approximated based on their IP address.

I don't even mind if it's not VB integrated!

I've seen this on a webpage somewhere. I wish I could find it again...
