Force users to Register?
 

Not sure how to set the permissions correctly for this but I want users to see a Must register warning in order to view the boards, or threads.

I have it set to not allow unregistered users to post or see threads, or forums, but this error makes it appears as there is no activity at all on the board.

Any suggestion on how this can be done, or if there is an existing option I missed to do this?

admincp > usergroups > forum permissions > click "Edit" for "Unregistered / Not Logged In" > All no > save and you're done. Thats how I did mine anyway

I'm not sure if this is the right switch but try:

usergroup manager > unregistered & not logged in > Edit usergroup > Forum Viewing Permissions

Set everything to NO

That should do the trick. If not then there's another master switch somewhere that I haven't thought about.

i personally find it annoying when you go to a board,and you have to register to view it,ive found it better to have your board open to unregistered/guests to read posts/threads you have a better chance of gaining new members,just my 2 cents worth

Also search engine purposes......................I think

agreed,they cataloge your forum and add links,which gets you out there

ya i want a coding for this too
ive seen it on some boards
you gotta first register and then the more important forums appear
like if you got 10 forums and an unregistered member comes by they only see 5 forums till they register

Yeah that's what I was saying I tried. It doesn't allow anything but it also appears that the forum is dead.

Maybe it's more elegant to redirect all guests to the login page and edit the login page template so it explains why guests are required to sign in.

Myself I lock guests out of just threads and showposts with some custom code but still allow search engines to spider them. That way People can find articles and such from google still and all they have to do is register to read them.
