a simple news puller for 3.5.1

I have looked all over for a simple news puller for vbulletin. I have tried vbadvanced but i dont need all that. i have tried vbexternal but could not get it to work.
I even tried some stuff I got sent on msn. :(

I just would like something like what
http://www.tribalwar.com
http://beyondunreal.com
http://totalbf2.com

these sites use.

How are those sites different from vBadvanced or other portal type systems?

Well for starters they aren't using a portal system. They're just pulling the threads from the forum to appear as news. I believe they are using VBExternal or something similar, but as I haven't tried these extensions myself, I can't say for sure.

All of those sites listed as examples could be easily accomplished using vBAdvanced, vBPortal, or vBIndex, or any other portal type system.

What would you recommend? I just tried vBExternal and it doesn't seem to work with 3.5.1. I'd just like something simple that I can use to pull news onto a page on my site (e.g. index.php) without using any of the other stuff (like logins, users online, etc) that comes with vBAdvanced.

Nevermind, I'm using vBExternal. It works great with the fix.

Actually, (on tribalwar) we are posting new threads based on the news we post on the front page. No portals. All custom scripts. When we post news to the front page, it updates the forum DB with the same content to make a thread, gets the threadid and creates the comment link. It's a really simple system.
