How long should bulletinboard contest last for most posts?

To get one of my forums off the ground, can anybody recommend a time period for a posting contest?

Say 30 days, who ever has the most posts wins $100 ?

Is 30 days too long? to short?

Can anybody have any experience or recommendations?

it depends on the size and nature of the forum for some forums 30 days may be too long for others 30 days may not be long enough
