How to's forum - please clean it up

I just spent 5 minutes looking for a thread there. There are 43 threads and 41 redirects. How many more need to pile up before someone deletes them?

Here's how to minimize question threads...
The problem is the title. It says How To's. Think of a user seeing that title. He will think.."Oh, this is where I ask a question on how to do something". If you rename the forum to 3.5 Tutorials, the rate of questions there will drop dramatically. Having people read forum descriptions or stickies is not an option. They don't and they wont. There is nothing you can do to change that.

We could force them to read the stickies - We could then force them to agree to abide by the laws of that forum, and then set our Dragon on them if they break it :D

I give up.

I've cleaned it up, really was a pain looking at it ;)

However, I think the problem is that people don't understand what How-To's are ...

Well, for those that don't....

How-To's forum = basically a TUTORIAL section, NOT to ASK questions in this area. There's a forum called QUESTIONS for that.

IMO, people who can't read that.....................well, nevermind, I'll be nice :)

Thanks Andreas!

Thats why I say to rename it to Tutorials. Trust me, it will work! Move the question forum to the top and that will also help.

Much better. Very appreciated.

akanevsky 10-22-2005 10:11 PM

Thanks, Andreas =)

I think you should also limit thread creation to coders :)

And there are also many repeating tutorials which basically speak about the same thing. IMO, the better ones should be left, the worse ones should be deleted.

Cheers

I agree. ;)

I think you should just run a cron job to remove redirects after a few days.

akanevsky 11-19-2005 01:56 AM

Maybe remove redirects at all?
NOBODY CARES WHAT WAS REDIRECTED, AND WHETHER IT WAS.
Thank you very much.

Andreas 11-19-2005 02:49 AM

Maybe you don't, others do.
Not everybody subscribes threads, so it is difficult to find threads again that have been moved if there are no redirects.
