Advanced Editing Options For Mods & Admins for 3.5 Discussion
Can I please port this hack myself, since I am about to upgrade my board and I need it now? If yes, I'll give you credit for the original. R3pect :)
|
I hope so. :p :)
|
I would rather wait for Xernon to code it for 3.5 since it is his hack and he knows it better than anyone else.

Firstly, because I don't think you ever had problems with my hacks (and even if you did, I always helped fix them). Those who installed my hacks and requested support in my threads - they can all can confirm it. Secondly, because if I get Xenon's permission to release it here, you will not be forced to install my release. In fact, you can always wait for Xenon's release if you wish so. Thirdly, because I never said I would COPY-PASTE the code. I would code it from the scratch but give Xenon credit for the idea and original code (since I might draw some ideas from it as well). Now, I am going to code the port myself since I need it, regardless of what anybody thinks about it. All I'm asking for is Xenon's permission to release it here. Xenon, where are you? :) |
Be nice, now... I took Boofo's reply as a light-hearted one - not a hostile one...
|
personally i have no problem with it, beeing ported by anyone else as long as i get my credits ;)

Okay, guys.. I see.. Well, this is great news. I'm anxious to find Dark Visor's version because this is the only thing preventing me from upgrading...

Actually you know what? You are right with what you said, and I respect you for sticking to the original author rather than jumping to someone else when he doesn't have time :)

// end of off-topic, sorry for flooding and thanks for permission to port |
I will be very happy if the 3.5 port works as Xenon's current mod, and if the following issues are resolved, so much the better.
1) Update username if post is last post showing on Forum/index. 2) Update post count of new username and changed from username. 3) I would be thrilled if this mod could also appear in the message newthread /newreply interface as well as editpost as it is now. The reason is that I often need to post New Threads on members behalf. We have separate photo galleries that members upload pics and commentary to, and one of my tasks is to compile text/IMG tag pics into a New Thread / Post Reply article format for many members. The only way I can presently do this is to post it in my name, with `posted for username' comment, then use this mod to go back and edit > change username. It would be much more professional, and a time saver if I could change username at newthread/newreply. Thank you for considering this. ~ Mark |

Hmmm, I am just guessing that it would recognize me the as user posting the message. which I would change ...
Actually as there may also be no time stamp details till the message is posted, it would be fine if the fields remained blank at this point unless info was added. Thank you for bringing up this technical point. I actually need this mod far far more for newthread/newreply. ... with the exception of when I hand moved a bunch of posts over from my old yahoogroup a couple years ago and then had to change all the usernames/dates afterwards. ~ Mark |
So basically, you want to be logged in as you and post the message as if it is from another user account, right?
|
Correct. Though our site is an interactive forum, it is also going the route of a publication.
Many of our international artisan community are not so techno savvy and rely on me to help prepare their gallery pics and comments into posts. ~ Mark |
1) Update username if post is last post showing on Forum/index.
This will be done. 2) 2) Update post count of new username and changed from username. This will be done too. 3) I would be thrilled if this mod could also appear in the message newthread /newreply interface as well as editpost as it is now. Newreply? What for? But I'll do it for newthread. |
WoW! That will be fantastic if you can do this.
Newreply? What for? To be honest, this need is rare, I was just trying to cover all bases. I will be very happy if you can do the rest. Thanks, Mark |
well, the newreply/newthread is a different hack at all, but doable in one step
a template condition in the editor and a build_new_post hack, no difference if it's newreply or new thread. |
Base port completed with the postcount being updated.
Now working on newthread. |
Xenon wrote ...
"well, the newreply/newthread is a different hack at all, but doable in one step" It could still apply as ... Advanced Editing Options For Mods & Admins " ... a template condition in the editor and a build_new_post hack, no difference if it's newreply or new thread. " That would be great if do-able. One other thing I've noticed and I don't know if you can do anything about this, but I'll mention it anyway. Is it possible to iniatiate change of users default subscription mode? Scenario ... My subscription mode is set to unsubscribe, as I have it set to receive all new posts in Forum Manager. In Xenon's mod I have to post New Thread / New Reply then go back and edit / change username. While doing this I change the members subscription type to Instant Notification, which is our board default > then I submit. What happens is that I also become subscribed to Instant Notification too, so I need to go to my subscriptions folder and delete subscription. I can live with this, but it would be very cool if change of username could change subscription type to users default subscription mode. Many many thanks Dark Visor, and Xenon for your work! ~ Mark Drat! I am on the road this next week, and will not be able to upgrade to 3.5/install this, if it is ready, till the 24th Oct :( |
I am NOT doing newreply.
However, newthread is complete... I need a few beta-testers to test it on my board. |
You're homepage shows as vB.org.
If it ain't to technical I'll be a guinea pig. |
Oh, and I need someone to help me with ajax quick edit.. Cause I have no idea about ajax.
EDIT: Actually, no need for ajax here.. I'll just remove the edit buttons for those who can't edit :) |

Okay, I might do it then.

And you might want to work with the AJAX stuff. It really is a great addition. ;) |
I need some help though.. :(
If I write: (in newreply.php) $dataman->set_info('user', fetch_userinfo(0), true, false); then $vbulletin->userinfo gets reset to the new user data... how do I avoid that? I am all done except I cannot solve this problem... Why the hell would it get reset? |
These improvements to this mod are going to be fanfreekintastic!
Heres my scenario ... I'm primarily an artist / participant at my forum. I need alias usernames for issues like News and Events postings, Site Technical Support etc as I don't want these posts cluttering up my personal Profiles`See all Posts / Threads' viewing. Now I will not need to log out / login as another usename to post a New Thread / New Reply for these issues! :) Mark |
Ok, question:
DO WE NEED AN OPTION TO PUT A CUSTOM DATE IN NEWTHREAD/NEWREPLY? |
No, I can't personally see any need to apply a custom date in newthread /newreply.
|
I'm just putting out a thought here ... one which I currently don't need ...
But what would happen if you could apply a custom date, and entered a future date? hehe ~ Mark |
Curiosity got the better of me so I used the current mod to edit an existing Thread to tomorrow and it does still show up, both in the specific forum and in Search > Today's Active.
Forward dating is possibly a rather kinky way to temporarily stick a thread. Back dating a Thread obviously does show in correct Forum Thread Search chronological placement. DO WE NEED AN OPTION TO PUT A CUSTOM DATE IN NEWTHREAD/NEWREPLY? Trust me to change my mind on this one! If it can be done, please do it. For posting backdated Threads that I don't want to show in New Posts, I have been posting them into a private forum > edit > backdate with Xenons mod > then move to it's respective forum ... If > CUSTOM DATE IN NEWTHREAD/NEWREPLY is possible, I could skip the above and post it right in, pre dated. If this causes too much of a hassle for you, no probs, I have an alternative method. Thanks ~ Mark |
What would currently happen is the forum lastposter not being updated...
Because it is only updated when the current time exactly matches the post time... Since workaround would require much more code, I am wondering whether that is even needed. The problem, however, does not exist in editpost. I, personally, can't see the point in the custom date at all... Anyone wants to explain? |
"Since workaround would require much more code"
Skip it I can live without it, > easy other ways to post backdated threads. If you get everything else to work I will be in 7th heaven! ~ Mark |
