Collection Manager
I've seen this requested a dozen times, and this'll make it a dozen and one ;)
Something similar to what they have on IGN or Gamespot where there's a database of items which you can add to your own "collection". Be it games, cards, cars, whatever. I don't think it'd be too difficult to write now that we have the plugin manager, and I'm willing to work with someone else to get it done. |

I'm not new to PHP, but I'm certainly not at the point where I can just code something like that from scratch. I'm more of a "look and feel" guy ;) Anyone who's willing to do this, or help do this let us know :)
|
Are you thinking of one where users select from a list which items they have, or they can add anything?
|
One where they can only add things from a specified list, like they have on IGN or Gamespot.

bump, i really would like to see this...

This is something i've wanted for along time, requested it a few times for vb3.0.x but never got any real response.. Even had a go at it myself, but never really managed to get it exactly as I wanted..

I have a friend who is fairly good at PHP who said he'd be willing to help me write something like this. Any features I should bear in mind when I write up the outline for what I want it to do?
|
well what kind of collections you guys want to have ? I am familiar with GS, so I may need to know what thing do you want to put in the collections.

Personally i'd like forum members to be able to choose which video games (could be anything, dvd, music etc) from a list that I setup as admin.. The list for each member should be viewable via their profile and if possible, clicking on one of the items (video games in this case) it would list all other members who have that video game in their list.. Would also be nice if you could have small thumbnails of images... I could go on forever, but thats the basics which i'd like to have covered, i'm sure others have their own opinions :o

If someone does develop this, my hacks (only got 2 v3.5s) may help out for part of it.
Just rambling here, but that would require 1 new table (2 if you don't use a profile option dropdown to store the file names), something like this (writing out the 2 table version as I can't see the vB structure ATM): Table Name: collection (this stores the actual collection information of who has what) id (referenced as collection_id from another table if needed, just a coding style thing) user_id item_id Table Name: items id (referenced as item_id) name image_location (optional) |
This would be perfect for my gaming and anime forum. Please can someone do this?
|
Has this been done yet? I am looking to add this to my site for games as well!

An old thread but still a great idea, has anyone had any success finding this sort of mod yet?
|
Has anyone got a link to this?
Someone mentions its used on gamespot etc - any link to see what it actually does? |
