Invitation Hack
 

A hack that would close registration's and give members invitations based on posts. :-)

I'd try to make this...but im busy with my other vb hack/addon w/e their called now...

How would this work? Much like the Gmail invite system? :)

well kinda :-). Every user would have a specific amount of invites and he/she can invite his/her friends :-). It would be pretty good if you own big forums like me :-P

This would be a very nice hack. How about something that works for both registering on the forums as well as giving access to a forum? Like... when you register for the forums, you have to input a ten digit code that the user received from a person on the forums who got enough posts to earn one invite. Or... the same type of thing, but to get forum access. You could give secondary usergroups to those who get the invites.

I think this hack would be a really good one.

Tyson, I'm impressed with your screenshot and will have a look when I get home - know programming quite well but definately new to php & XML

By the way, looks exactly like something I may need. I'm running a new board directed towards a closed, dedicated audience and I KNOW EVERYONES email addy already so it won't exactly be 'spamming'!!

Looks like your in effect 'preregistering' someone and waiting for a return of the 'activation' link back?? Am NOT looking for user ability to do this(only admin) but will be looking to automate the 'invitation' processing as well(ie:batch run processing) so we'll see,

This is a cool idea, any update yet? :)

I installed it on my test system. It looks very nice but it still has a lot of problems... As I'm not a coder myself I can only point out which problems I encounter. So if anyone is interested in taking this up I can help test you this hack.

In the mean time I made some improvements in the script to learn how it works and already managed to make some small fixes... so we will see what comes out.

Post the problems here...maybe we can collaborate and get this to a "releasable" state.

This is a very interesting concept.

i agree with you on this i tried it out and got nothing at all the templates were there and was enabled but did nothing shame as it sounds and looks a prommissing hack.

I've been working on invitation hack for vb 3.0. I'll port it to vb 3.5 once I got it done. :)

I am going to make a normal working hack :) Keep up with updates :)

number of posts is the best idea in my opninion.

I think it will be good if you can give an option as to what to use. for many people it will be no. of posts.. but I have a torrent site, so I want it on the basis of their torrent up/down ratio.

and also can you please make one for 3.0.x too :)
and by when can we expect the hack? :D

I was thinking of making a cron that would increase the number of invites by a rounded (posts:days_registered) ratio. How's that?

Concerning torrents, it's something not included in vBulletin so I don't see how I'm supposed to do that..

And about the expectation date - I don't know. As soon as I have spare time. :)

its ok, you forget about torrents. pls make it on the basis of posts/days regd and I will change that variable to the torrent ratio... or if you can make it configurable parameter, wonderful :)

And I hope you are making it such that it uses a random unique number which cannot be duplicated by some smart asses :D

I got this hack completed for vb 3.0.x. I'm in progress of converting it to vb 3.5.
