Mass Uninstall Link

I would like to have a link to "Mass Uninstall" all hacks we have installed. Now that 3.5 is out, getting updates on 3.0 hacks that I dont use anymore is useless, and it takes quite a bit of time to go through 12 pages of hacks and click the Uninstall link on each one :p

So a link to mass uninstall all hacks so we can start with a clean slate would be very useful :)

Why would you uninstall a hack? You did use it..

But the hacks I installed were for 2.X or 3.0.X ... why should I keep recieving emails for hacks I dont use anymore since I've upgraded to 3.5?

I agree the main reason behind the installed feature is too keep track of the hacks you currently use for you board.

Exactly. So if I dont use them, I dont technically have them "Installed" and yet I will still recieve emails for updates and new versions.

Yeah I've always used the list for that function... Although I've already manually uninstalled everything I used in 3.0.x. :)

If people are worried about install counts change the .org code so u have total installs and current installs. Current installs get updates and is shown in your installed hacks. Total installs never go down. ;)

That's a good idea. But how would the system know to differentiate between total and current installs? Perhaps it should be automatically done by forum... like, if the install was done in the 3.5 forums, the user can choose 3.5 and it will only bring in email updates for 3.5 installs.

Hmm, I wondered why some of my 'counts' had gone down slightly, it never occured to me that people would uninstall as they moved from 3.0 to 3.5.

lol, am I the only person who has made this suggestion? Here I thought it'd been suggested numerous times and turned down for whatever reason :p

It's usually discussed but nothing ever comes of it because a lot of people feel it would be ripping off those who developed the 2.x and 3.0.x hacks.

MGM 10-03-2005 01:12 AM

What? Why? Because of a little number? I don't see why that number even matters... isn't this supposed to convenience the hack users? I mean, I'm not saying forget the authors but how does a number affect a hack at all?

If it means that much, why not do what Jenta suggested and have two installs, one for total (anyone who has ever clicked install) and one for those who currently have it installed (which, when uninstalled, will disable recieving of email updates)?

all you need is a list of all hacks with an inline check mark to uninstall.

As for "total installs " and who has installed it. Use total file downloads (next to the attachment in the hack) and leave the "current installs as is.

Like the "Show Installed Hacks" list from the usercp? That'd be the most obvious place to put it... but another good place would be the upcoming hack database...

I presume you have a field in the thread table with userids of installs. You do a count on this to return the install count.

You simply add another field called activeintalls. You dump userids into both fields but only delete from the activeintalls field. Problem solved.

Apart from the fact that it would be highly inaccurate, it's not actually displayed in hack threads ........

Why not just an option to remove the link from the list like "unsupscripe from updates" etc. and leave them installed or something ?

I use that list for example to find all my hacks when I want to install a testforum etc. and to find all version releated once is really quite overwhelming ..
