www.BodybuildingDungeon.com just reached 10,000 members in under 1 year! (8months to be exact)

just had to post..

10,000 members but only 91,340.. bah something wrong there.. ive seen boards with under 300 members with over 500,000 posts.

any idea on how to get them posting?

I face a somewhat similar dilemma:

My site began in Feb. 2004. Up until December 04, we had about 1000 members. In the months that followed, we grew dramatically, to the point where we had 10,000 by June and 20,000 about a week ago. The funny thing is, it's mainly due to word-of-mouth, as the forum isn't listed on yahoo and google for whatever reasons. Still, we've got about 420K posts and over 9000 active members (within the past 30 days), but as you've said, there are forums with hundreds of members but hundreds of thousands of posts!

yea... the amount of members is just bragin rights.. but it does list you higher on sites like big-boards.com ect.. but really its about the posts that make the forum what it is.

See, there's a reason for people to go to your forum and not post a thing. Usually for those forums with only a few hundred members and thousands of posts, the only reason to go there is to join in discussion and such.

91,340 is nothing to laugh at in 8 months. Think quality and not quantity.

You are getting registrations simply to remove the banner (for those who choose to even stay after seeing it, which excludes many people). Once they have registered, they have no incentive to post.

Yes, hence why the annoying registration popup keeps coming up when they go there. That might be the reason why your post count on the forum isn't as high as you expect it to be,

Oh god, get rid of the fake IE security bar also (especially given I'm using Firefox). Don't nag your users into registering. Give them positive incentives, don't punish them. If your site offers unique content with a helpful atmosphere, users will register naturally. If you have nothing to offer, then they won't join. Nagging them won't help (opposite effect).
