AIM No Longer Free?

AlM BOT SUPPORT: Hello! i am AIM BOT SUPPORT, My job is to inform you that starting from Oct 12. Aol Instant messager (AIM) will not be free to user who do not confirm the AIM account They use. Please visit
www.aim.account.com/accountnumber736546 and log in to your aim account to confirmate. Thank You!

Do you think this is true or what? I don't want to take any chances lol. Normally i laugh at this, however, AIM BOT SUPPORT is not an easy screen name to come by.

And the link is wrong lmao @ them putting www on a subdomain.

Boofo 09-27-2005 12:31 AM

Sounds like someone is phishing to me. Leave it alone.

Paul M 09-27-2005 12:31 AM

Looks like a pure scam to me, botched link and very poor english.

Confirm you details - as in "please give me your username and password" ........

Fake IMO.

akanevsky 09-27-2005 12:33 AM

This is a fake. They are trying to get your account information (login, password). Just disregard that message.

Gio~Logist 09-27-2005 12:48 AM

Oh ok thought so. Thanks you :p

Brad 09-27-2005 12:50 AM

AOL makes enough off their dial-up users anyway. ;)

Eh, MSN Messenger is better anyway (suprisingly :p)

Andreas 09-27-2005 07:36 AM

ICQ is the best :)

Zachariah 09-27-2005 09:03 AM

I use Trillian.

The rest of the installers for IM are a joke.

Jenta 09-27-2005 09:16 AM

Miranda > Trillian

Same here, Trillian. ;)

Andreas 09-27-2005 09:25 AM

Trillian is crap - IMHO.
Tried it several times (the newest version that was available) and was always disappointed ... lot of trouble with messages not getting through, messages being corrputed, users showing online (although they were not), etc. etc.

IM Flamewar
*harhar* :D

Boofo 09-27-2005 09:33 AM

Yes, it does have it's days where it likes to act up. But everything else I've tried has problems in one way or another too. Trillian has always been easy to use and understand. When I was using AIM, MSN and Yahoo, it was the best choice. Now that I don't use anything but MSN, it doesn't really matter what I use, but I know my way around Trillian, so I stick with it.

Dan 09-27-2005 09:59 AM

I've been using Trillian since back in the pre 1.0 days. It worked good then and it still works good now. I rarely will use anything else ;)

wow not me, but I was never one to use the "new" out of the box product of anything. I still use windows 2k, because XP can not handle the stress I put the OS through. After about the 89th program you install the OS takes a big crap.

Winamp 2.78 lite, 5.x will crap out after 34,564 songs in the play list .. etc ......

I use Trillian 3.0 PRO build 964, since it came out and I updated :nervous: .

3132 IM contacts and it still has not crashed :D. On 24/7 - AIM,ICQ,IRC (3 server now and then), yahoo, msn, 15 rss feeds/ per hour update.

9,660 megs of ram.

Zack after the war
KirbyDE after the war :dead:

peterska2 09-27-2005 10:23 AM

For some unknown reason trillian died on me. Now I'm stuck with just MSN coz I can't remember the passwords for anything else :(

Resources it takes to run all of that. (vs. multi IM programs each with its own amount of memory they use)

Be careful ... I use XP and it works great for me after over 100 programs added to it. Could it be moms and pops are the only ones able to set ut up right? ;)

win2k -

178 programs installed
789 uninstalled
hit by 35 virus (only 12 killed the boot sector, but 8 renamed all zip, jpg, dll files :D )
70,324 spyware removed
2100 toolbars removed

last Must use Ghost to reinstall / reformat - 2 1/2 years :p

This is on a client of mines system that thinks WinXP is part of a Gov plot to keep track of what people are doing. I tell him of all the programs he can install to protect himself from all the crap these morons make (spyware, virus), but he thinks those are more Gov. spy programs look @ what we do on-line.

So he is on my every 6 month PM cycle for computer maintance.

He is 72 and has a million stories. I think he lets it go till the damb thing freezes or crashes so I can talk to him while I fix his computer. It's cool, we all need someone to chat at, I guess

thats part of it but still...
XP was designed for less computer savvy people
it would be stupid of MS not too

Win2K ran microsoft.com and hotmail.com till Win2K3 replaced it. Good enough for me ;)

jugo 09-27-2005 12:06 PM

Let's analize this and state the obvious:

account.com is not run by AOL or AIM.

I think you're getting "less computer savvy" and "more and better features" mixed up. I have always had better luck with XP than I ever did 2K. So, why is it I have the opposite experience with XP that you guys do? ;)

Anyone that pays that much a month for dial-up is a damn fool.

Logikos 09-28-2005 08:47 AM

Kirby likes Google talk. :p I use MSN the most. I just have AIM for convenience for others.
