Spider!!!! Urgent Help Needed!!!

1 Attachment(s)
I've got 2 massive spiders in my house. One is approx 4 inches across and the other approx 3 inches.

I can't stand spiders!!!!

They are far to big for me to set my cats on as they would likely eat the cat!

What can I do with them. I'm scared stiff esp as the biggest one is in my bedroom. The other one is in the bathroom which is off my bedroom.

AN-net 09-25-2005 10:53 PM

get a shoe?

peterska2 09-25-2005 10:56 PM

If they were little ones yeah, but no way hosea with these ones. They'll go crunch, or make a hole in my shoe!

Nullifi3d 09-25-2005 10:59 PM

got a bat?

peterska2 09-25-2005 11:03 PM

Nope. and I can't ring a man that can as it's 01:10 here so everyone is in bed. In fact my cats seem to have bedded down for the night in front of the fire.

Nullifi3d 09-25-2005 11:09 PM

Got spray of any kind? if not you gotta smack those things with something (preferably long). Maybe someone with knowledge of spiders can tell us if that one's harmfull. I doubt it is though.

peterska2 09-25-2005 11:10 PM

I've only got household cleaners. If I go to hit it and it run's then I'll be up the street before I know it. And where could I go at this time of night?

filburt1 09-25-2005 11:18 PM

Post on a discussion board that discusses extending a commercial product?

Nullifi3d 09-25-2005 11:19 PM

I don't think there's another option. try a large flat board of some sort (a few feet in width and height). drop it on the spider. If it's on carpet stomp on the top of the board immediately after it was dropped.

peterska2 09-25-2005 11:20 PM

filburt dear, it's the lounge!

It's on the ceiling. Good idea though. Would require demolishing my wardrobe first however.

Nullifi3d 09-25-2005 11:24 PM

spray bleach on it and don't let it drop on you.

Are you pulling our legs? Or has it really been chilling in open view for an hour?

peterska2 09-25-2005 11:27 PM

Hang on a tick. I'll go check on it. The PC is in the lounge so I don't have to sit near it.

[back]

$h1t It's moved. I can't find it now. Really scared. Considering walking up to the local hospital for some tranquilisers. 2 reasons. 1. It'll calm me down. 2. It'll keep me out the house for at least 3 hours.

Kran 09-25-2005 11:37 PM

You have a fire, light something on fire and hit the spider with it. :/

Guest190829 09-25-2005 11:51 PM

Spray it with some cleaner or bleach, that'll kill it quickly. And you don't have to get too near. I wouldn't sleep at all untill both of those were dead...

that's a great idea, probably the best yet

AN-net 09-26-2005 02:14 AM

i think a shoe is still the best idea:D its not like their jumping spiders;)

Nullifi3d 09-26-2005 02:29 AM

While most spiders don't jump, many can run out of the path of the shoe (with their 8 legs) within the time it takes a human to move one arm towards it. Especially if it's in a hard to reach place such as the ceiling where it can then choose to drop (hopefully not on you).

I think the best bet would be a can of wd-40 and a lighter.

With the sizes you are speaking it sounds to me like what we call here in the states a normal wolf spider. They are generally more afraid of you then the opposite. They are not very aggressive normally, and will go on about their business without much ado. As you do not live in Australia, I don't think you've much to worry about, the typical US wolf spider get to be about that size and is attracted to human domociles because of the relative stable temperatures, and the cornucopia of insects that live with us, even in the cleanest of homes.

What I do with them is simply get a glass and cover them with the glass (if on the ceiling do the same and they will fall into the glass) then simply slide a piece of paper under (or over) the glass and then throw them outside the door and into the lawn or nearby tree. They are typically harmles to us, and provide us with a benefit in that they help keep our household insects in check.

neway, that's my two pence.

P.s. don't watch the discovery channels insect stories if yer that afraid of things in the home, they did a story on what comes in our beds with us at night while we sleep, and they said that the average human eats about 4 pounds of bugs a year in their sleep. I thought that was a pretty cool figure.

That's disgusting. I hope they aren't roaches that we eat.

BamaStangGuy 09-26-2005 03:18 AM

Holy shit if I saw a 4 inch spider I would pass out...

I am so scared of spiders... I dont know what it is but they literally scare the hell out of me... the biggest one here is like a inch maybe... anything bigger and I would have a stroke...

Marco van Herwaarden 09-26-2005 04:18 AM

I would just join the cats in front of the fire if i where you.

Marco van Herwaarden 09-26-2005 04:19 AM

Oops anybody noticed she already didn't post for 5 hours, hope she didn't get eaten.

Don't you read the Enquirer at all? ;)

Blam Forumz 09-26-2005 05:30 AM

Set it alight! Seriously, if you've ever set a spider alight you'll know why im so excited!

XD I agree with that. Fire & cats protect all.

Kill it with some sort of acidic/basic solution. That usually kills everything or at least burns them.

peterska2 09-26-2005 08:06 AM

In the end I sorta fell asleep on the keyboard. Woke at 03:30 with a blinking sore back and neck so moved to bed but insisted on both cats sleeping with me.

I still can't find either of them now though so I keep getting phantom feelings of one on me which is really doing my head in.

Andreas 09-26-2005 08:17 AM

Best thing to keep spiders away:
robots.txt

Well I would do if I had a printer. :(

BTW I'm going out for a bit. Computer course. They teach me access and excel, I teach them HTML and overhaul their website. I do most of the teaching. Is OK. They good people.

Better find those spiders, I'd get paranoid.

Ha screw that no way I would be sleeping

bvtonedog 09-26-2005 04:56 PM

I have about a 3 inch spider that stays in my window, he keeps bugs out of my room, I let him live, but if he ever even thinks about coming inside... I'll kill him as fast as I can, I hate those little buggers

Talisman 09-26-2005 06:12 PM

LOL.... three pages of this stuff and nobody suggested she go out and buy a can of RAID? Keep looking for them. Once you locate them again, just work up enough courage to get within reach to spray the spider with some Ant and Roach killer... and then just drench the things with it.

They won't die instantly from the bug spray when they're that big, but they won't live long either.

Let us know what happens. ;)

peterska2 09-26-2005 06:15 PM

I'm armed with 4 types of bug killer ready for when I see the evil things. Don't worry, I will report back.

smacklan 09-26-2005 06:24 PM

Not to diminish the true sense of fear they instill in you and others, but good grief!!..it's just a freakin spider...you're about 500 times larger...just squash the dagone things. Recently, while working as a counselor at my daughters summer camp this summer, a 3 foot snake dropped out of the ceiling in her cabin with about 15 other freaked out girls. I cornered it and used a coat hanger to immobilize it behind the head, reached down, grabbed it and carried it out...badda bing, badda boom...no more snakie. You will be fine ;)

bigcurt 09-26-2005 07:42 PM

Pick it up and through it out the door? ;P

~Curt

Nullifi3d 09-26-2005 07:43 PM

In most situations this is the case. harmless. But if you're in the rainforest you better think twice about doing that, lol.

I act like a little girl if I see a spider, I am not afraid to admit it... and if I run into a spider web I do a nice little dance trying to get it off.

Me and spiders just need to have a mutal understanding of staying away from each other.

8 legs is totally unnessary, and all those eyes are just freaky.
