This is why I hate the doctor

I go in today because of my sleeping problems and I leave to messed up to drive. I have no idea exactly how much blood they took from me today for testing, but it was more than enough!

The nurse comes in after I finish up with the doc and tells me "We are going to have some fun". I knew they needed some blood, and I was thinking it would be a small vile like most times.

She counts out four large ones, I estimate they were the size of 6 or 7 smaller viles that my old doctor's office used. She says she only has to stick me once but halfway through the 3rd vile the blood stops coming, and my arm is soild purple. She sticks me in my other arm and gets the rest, but by this time I am light headed, my vision is blacked over, and I'm sweating like I just ran a three mile race. I couldn't even drive myself home, lucky for me someone came with me else I would have been stuck there for awhile.

I do like my new doctor though, he listens to me while my old one treated me more or less like a stupid teenager.

My new doctor is having me sent in for abdominal scans next thursday to find out what exactly is going on to cause my acid reflux. He's doing blood testing aswell, we are basicly looking into the cause of this weight loss I'm having.

He also gave me 'sleeping pills', which I just found out are antidepressants. Do they normally give this stuff to people that have sleeping problems?

Anyway I'm just happy to be seeing someone that gives a damn about the people he cares for, he's the best doctor in town imho.

Hope all goes well with the scans, Brad. I may have to check in with the doctor if I continue to lose sleep. At first, I just thought it was due to my eating habits, but I've been eating much healthier and increasing my protein intake (protein whey mix, poweder) and drinking water instead of caffeine, but nothing is really working.

I am normally up most of the night and function well enough on 1-2 hours of sleep (as in 1-2 hours will fly for the next 24-72 hours without a second thought).

Not sure what the cause is but if it doesn't change, I'll be heading that way as well.

It's "vials" not "viles". ;)

Believe it or not, how nice a doctor to you may not reflect how good they are. Take House MD for example. He's mean, but he's good. ;)

I know this one is good, he's the one that handled the whole thing with my uncle :)

I wasn't sure about that word and I couldn't be bothered to look, I'll leave the post un-edited to preserve the humor.

To everyone: Thanks

However that's a TV show and not real life. ;)

Usually nice doctors are good. Mean doctors don't like their job. :p

Hope you get well soon Brad.

I've seen some really nice doctors who are really bad clinicians. :) But they get away with it because they have a great relationship with their patients.

Yeah, House MD is a great show. He says and does things that doctors can't say in real life. Plus for doctors it's fun as you get to try to figure out what the disease is. I've guessed right twice so far.

Actually, in a perfect world, we wouldn't have to worry about what we eat. In a perfect world we'd be able to have 5 plates of what brad ate and not have any side effects.

I know what you mean Erwin, but that is part of the reason why I've started going to him. The doctor I used to see could care less about anything aside from getting paid.

I was seeing this women for a few years, then she moved away so I started going back to him. After months of useless attempts to get him to do something for me aside from handing me a sample of whatever sort of meds he had on hand I decided I was better off just not going.

But as you know things don't improve on their own, they get worse. Now it's to the point that if I don't do something about it while I still can I could be looking at not living as long as I should. ;)

I personaly think this doctor is great, my grandparents go to him and I couldn't even tell you all the things he caught and corrected before it was to late. My uncle see him ofcourse, so does my friend and his mother. I can understand there begin bad doctors out there keeping there jobs by telling people what they want to hear, but there are bound to be good ones out there that just care enough about the people that come to them to take the extra time to listen and explain things to you. :)

Sounds like it could be a hiatus hernia. Nasty but controllable with diet.

Yes. They don't like giving out zopiclone if they can avoid it as it is highly addictive if taken for more than 14 nights. It also doesn't work for a lot of people. I'm guessing he probably gave you venlafaxine (it's the most common anti-depressant) in the hope that your sleep problems are due to some form of anxiety. All anti-depressants take 4-6 weeks to start having any effect so don't expect any overnight miracles. If in 6-8 weeks things haven't improved or you experience any side effects then go straight back and see him again.

EEK! I just realised I sound like a bleeding doctor!

I also really enjoy House MD. I'm surprised, because of Biology I actually understand most of the medical stuff they're on about in the show. Makes me like the show even more XD.

I especially like the episode when the mp3 player was stuck up that kids a** 0-o. And they talked about the RIAA being after him xD.
