Whoo hoo! Hurricane!
Well I'm being hit with hurricane Katrina as we speak. This is fun; its a really weak catogory 1. Lots of rain and wind.
Funny thing is, me and a roommate walked to the local gas station to get some beer and the second we got to the counter the power went out. Though we still got the beer, lets not get carried away now. On the way home an orange hit me in the head. =\ :) |
Heh.. Try dodging coconuts in a Cat 4 Typhoon. There's REAL fun. :D
|
Well I came really close to getting hit with a plamfromd. Which isn't suprising since I live in Florida
|
good luck just look out for cows =x
|
Oranges fly with category 1? Nice. :p
|
Trees go down with a cat1. 75mph winds min. Very fun indeed.
|
Sounds fun - Wish I was there :p
Will be in mid-september though :D Satan |

You're only in danger if you are near Universal Studios / Disneyland ;) Satan |
Would be nice to experience a Hurricane. We get strong winds and that here, but nothing like a real powerful hurricane.

I'm jealous. The last real hurricane I was in (we only get the leftovers in Atlanta) was back in 1998 in Coral Gables. I need to get back there.

really big weather happenings are pretty awesome. I have never been in a hurricane, but I have been in a tornado before, and was on a boat in the atlantic when a sou'easter blew in and almost knocked our boat over. I hope you bought A LOT of beer ;)

By the time the hurricanes get up here to Georgia, they are only tropical storms. :(
|
I just heard it was ugraded to a category 2 - I bet oranges are flying everywhere by now!
|
We had an over pass collapse over here when it was a cat 1
|
Oh we dont get anything, just minus zero temperatures in the middle of summer, unexpected rain in summer, from a sunny bright day to a complete washout with rain trhough the night, we once had rain non stop for a few weeks
Oh england :/ |

Well its all over now, plus I've been spending most of my time reading about AJAX.
|
Yup i got it too..... It flooded my house (upstairs as well), messed up my roof, a tree went into my aunt's neighbor's house, the streets look like a jungle, i didn't have electricity for 2 days, i have damage in some of the rooms...... But im ok :-D

Not sure why most of you are so "happy" about it. I finally got my power back after about... three to four days of it being out. Food's spoiled, not much gas in the area, car accidents everywhere... hurricane atmosphere, great, the effects, no.
It being hot and humid down here doesn't help either. |

I feel your pain. I had to go through this with 2 siblings (9 and 4), a mom who just had her tonsils taken out so she can't talk, no AC, spoiled food, humidity, NO RECEPTION accept SOMETIMES only on MY cell phone, since the traffic lights were working no one can geta round because everyone wanted to be first and no one had any manners, all the stores were either packed, empty (as in food or anything), or closed, FPL did not know when i would get my light back, and i can keep on with my list :-x |

If people down in Miami were impatient and thought they had it horribly bad for them, they obviously haven't been through Andrew, much less through something that Katrina is going to put the New Orleans area through in the next few hours. I wish anyone luck in that area, and most extreme safety. |

It's cat 5 now - see CNN.
|
Now this hurricane is sick, I can't belive how larage it got
Winds: 175mph Gust: 213mph Moving at 12mph. This storm is 200miles wide in diameter, thats disgusting. If it hit land as a cat 5, it will be the 4th category 5 in history to hit. |
i was in florida last year towars the end of september was on my honeymoon and the when we landed in daytona the widns were juststarting to pick up llol
|
Doesn't this thread seem kind of sick now? What began as a joke with people wishing they could experience a hurricane now has over 10,000 people dead and more still dying.

I've been through three in my lifetime and about a dozen tornados. They're like gutting shot in the gut: You might wonder what its like until you experience it, when it does happen you're just hoping to live through it and after its over, you don't ever want to do it again.
Curiousity is a dangerous thing. Its killed more than just cats. |
When I started this thread it was only a cat 1 and was just leaving Miami, Fl. It was fun for me, hurricane party and all, but it turned into a huge mess. Ironic..

S**t happens...

It's not trivialising - You moan about over 10,000 people dieing in a country like the US, where generally the average household can manage to feed and clothe their children and themselves, have job prospects and take vacations...
I'd rather focus on the 3rd world countries where things like what happened over there happen to them, and they cannot afford to feed themselves or look after themselves properly before it happens... Trivialising? No - I'm sorry for the lives that are lost but the hype over Hurricane Katrina is sickening me when every day for the last god knows how many years people in Africa have been dieing every day...
