vBulletin.com DNS Problems

This is just a quick note to let you know that vBulletin.com is experiencing DNS problems due to technical difficulties with our registrar (they put corrupt data into the DNS system and as a result the world's DNS servers don't know where to find vBulletin.com).

We are working to see if the problem can be resolved, but it may be that we have to wait for the various DNS servers around the world to refresh themselves with the correct, uncorrupted data.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Why not run your own dns servers, or use something like ZoneEdit ?

Brad 08-23-2005 06:59 PM

Thanks for letting us know, I posted it on the front page aswell to make sure it's seen :)

We do run our own DNS servers - the problem is at the registrar level.

Joe Gronlund 08-23-2005 07:06 PM

I put in the IP address and it started to resolve for me, with the vbulletin.com domainname..
Then again it could be just cached DNS info..

If you are on windows type this from the command line to flush your DNS cache:

Quote:

ipconfig /flushdns

Logikos 08-23-2005 07:14 PM

Seems to be working for me, thanks for letting us know :)

Sorry mis-read your post. My DNS has been off and on all day when it comes to getting to vb.com, although it seems to be fixed now :)

Ah, okay. :)

Andreas 08-23-2005 07:55 PM

hosts
Code:

69.93.104.200 www.vbulletin.com
=> DNS Severs can do whatever they want ;)

Paul M 08-23-2005 07:57 PM

Not much use if you go via proxy servers ;)

Andreas 08-23-2005 07:59 PM

Right, that's a problem then ... do many ppl use Proxies?

Paul M 08-23-2005 08:16 PM

Well they do in the UK, don't know about other countries.

Depends on the site, some places I go to require the use of a proxy :)

Onimua 08-23-2005 08:26 PM

So that's what wa going on. I thought it was my computer that was causing me not to be able to get onto vbulletin.com. Now I know. :)

Bashar 08-23-2005 09:53 PM

it seem it got fixed just need other countries to refresh their resolvers.

i can't reach it from Kuwait, but able via my servers in the US via proxy working just fine.

good luck :)

I don't use any proxies, unless my IP is banned for some reason :p

Death Reaper 08-24-2005 05:52 AM

Still doesn't seem to work for me..even after flushing the DNS multiple times..

Hopefully this issue can be fixed soon :(

Hi,

Yep having the same problem here in the UK, thought it was just me, my last isp blocked the vbulletin server for about 5 days once, at the same time they blocked the server I was running 10 websites on, hence the fact they are my former isp.

taffy

jroy 08-24-2005 12:20 PM

still not working here, is there any other way to access the site?

Marco van Herwaarden 08-24-2005 12:23 PM

Add the following line to your 'hosts' file (on windows 2K/XP \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts), make sure that you add it to the file hosts without an extension:
Code:

69.93.104.200 www.vbulletin.com vbulletin.com images.vbulletin.com
Make sure to remove the line once the problems are solved.

taffy056 08-24-2005 12:28 PM

Code:

69.93.104.200 www.vbulletin.com vbulletin.com images.vbulletin.com
Worked for me, how do I know when the problems are solved?

taffy

Marco van Herwaarden 08-24-2005 12:31 PM

Just try to remove it in 1 week, and see if all work. There is no way to tell when the change will be propagated to your DNS servers.

I added another address (files.vbulletin.com)

Mine didn't show images..so I grabbed the URL.

No interruptions at all for me. NTL UK.

PIKenPIK 08-25-2005 06:35 AM

Still no connection in The Netherlands.

The host-file solution works for me :)

digitalhome 08-25-2005 03:53 PM

I was having problems and did ipconfig /flushdns from a command line and I'm okay now.

Thanks to the poster!

Hi,

Guess everything is back to normal, just removed the text that was added and everything is working as normal, thanks for the suggestion, and your trouble for coming up with a temp fix :)
