Put a Column on the RIGHT side of every forum page
Rather than clutter up the left column thread with this second product and confuse the issue further, I have made a separate product for those of you who want a column on the right side instead.
This can easily be combined with the left column product to have a column on both sides. To use this with the left column product, change the header code to: Code:
<!-- Left Column Code --> |
find:
HTML Code:
<!-- Left Column Code --> HTML Code:
<!-- Right Column Code --> Great work, thanks for sharing. |
doh

Would it not be simplet to just create a template modification on the header and footer and leave it at that?
|
In some ways, yes. But, this creates a separate template for the menu contents which makes it easier to maintain for some. The header template can get full with ad banners and other things.
For some novice users, this is an easier method. |

Good point. Thanks. |
Is there a way to make this ONLY show in the forumhome and not in every forum page?
-Michael |
Yes. Look in the left page hack. There is the syntax to make it not show on the portal page. Change that to make it ONLY show on the forumhome.
|
is it possible to include just templates in here?
|
Not sure what you are asking.

i have a problem, when i browse threads that have attachments in them (i have thumbnails enabled) the page will be resized into my whole screen's resolution, thereby resulting in a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom needing me to scroll to the right to see the right panel.
i don't have this problem when i browse categories or threads that have no attachments, i checked the attachment templates, they didn't specify a size, weird...anyway to solve this ? |
ohgenki, I find it impossible to debug issues like this for users who don't display their forums in your member profile here. I can't recreate the problem on my site and I can't see your site; so without seeing your full style in action I am unable to help you.

alright, this is an example:
http://www.ohgenki.com/forums/showth...t=50923&page=4 the scroll bar at the bottom is only present when viewing threads that contains attachments. also, this problem lies only with the right panel, if i put the panel to the left, it has no such problems. screen shot: |
Can't view the thread because login is required. Can't see the whole page in the screenshot, nor can I view the source to see what might be going on. Try it on a test board with the default style and see if you have the same problem. If not, you're probably going to have to do some page validation work and tinkering with your style to get things aligned as you want them.

I'm sorry, I don't have time to help people get dynamic data into the columns at this time. Each kind of dynamic data is essentially it's own modification.

I really like this right column thing and I find it to be very useful and I really want to use it on my board.. But there's one thing I have to fix before I can use it..
It's working good on all pages except for on the view thread pages.. For some reason it contracts the thread part. View the attached screenshot to understand what I mean.. Is there any way I can fix this? Thanks |

i had the same problem. i had to remove all the spacer_close and spacer_open tagsd from all the templates... then it works.

from all templates
|
There seems to be an issue with this and the spacer Tempates...
I'm sure it's simple html...BUT it's not working correctly. I am using all DEFAULT TEMPLATES except for the header, but the only change in the header is my images. So there IS a problem with this and the spcer templates. |
I think this is the plugin I was looking for...
Can I use this to show a Google adsense skyscraper on the right side of my forum? My forum uses a fixed width. |

yes thats what i did and it worked for me.
|
why not just edit the two templates and clear them out ...that way you just edit two templates and leave the rest.
|
I added this right-side column code (thanks so much, by the way) and noticed an odd behavior on the posts which begin underneath the header bar that contains the "thread tools, search this thread, rate thread... etc" drop-downs.
In the attached pic you'll see that the width of the posts are a bit thinner than the normal area - and it looks odd. This happened after adding the code for the right column. Has anyone else seen this and does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy it? I'd like to "unsquish" my posts so the forum looks correct again. PS. This does not show up on the main forum page, just the Showthread areas when you are viewing posts. Forum is at: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums |
can u clearly explain how to add this just to forumhome like
www.dholaholic.com/forum has that |
How can i replace the black name & add my content inside the block?

You can then make changes in there. |

fiarly global problem, I have not found a solution yet either!
|
What I have done is set the spacer size to 5px more as a visual effect on my forum, now the problem of the narrowing posts has at least nearly disappeared.

I'm looking for a solution as well as to how to get my margins aligned. Anyone know?

is it possible just on forumhome ?

just follow the instructions, but instead of inserting after header, insert after (or before depending on your style) $header on forumhome template. and instead of inserting into $footer, insert right before $footer on forumhome template. hope that helps! |
Thanks Yinyang ;)

I put the code in forumhome. But there is still a problem on the forumhome page. 1) The spacing is not quite right down the right side. I would not like the right column to squish up against up against the other tables with the screen width is shrunk using the favorites side by in any browser window. 2) Also notice the column on the right side spacing is wider than the left side spacing. |
