I'm about to switch from UBB.threads to VB. :)
On my previous board I used this very handy modification:

This modification uses a cookie to track users that login using different usernames. (Or users sharing the same computer). When a duplicate identity is detected, a PM is sent to all Admins notifying you of the duplicates.

Is such mod available for VB too ? :rolleyes:

Don't believe so, not much short of a user entering the same birthday, IM screename, email address, or IP would be able to detect this. and a IP is about worthless in this day and age.

Well, most people at my board don't have much computer knowledge, and this hack really helped me a lot. In most cases it's two people sharing the same computer, but in some cases it's a abusing user. :)
Last time we caught a user who was having whole conversations with himselve :D

lmao if one is that bored i'd let him go with that. but you can always just do a query to show users with the same ip addys (i dont know what it is tho)

I have a threads board as well and use this mod over there. It comes in very handy for troublemakers. They cause a problem or 10 and end up being banned and then login with a new name. They're busted right away. Most people never have a clue this is how they're caught.

I had obtained permission from the author to drag it over here and try to get someone to port it over for VB but nobody every tried it...

If you have the permission for it to be ported, pm it to me. I'd like to look at it. ;)

There is another methode you could use in addition to this:

A password md5 hash comparison.
Most users who create multiple accounts dont bother to use different passwords.

If you get notified about a possible multi then the script could compate the stored pw hashes and if they are the same you have nearly prove that this user is a multi ;)

This don't work because the password is hashed with the salt. And the salt is different for each user.

This was also very handy on our site; that it used a simple cookie to track ids a user logged in with made it so simple, yet so many people had no clue that it was tracking their logins.

If nobody has done this, I might look into it as it was a handy mod.

thats funny because that same thing just happened on my board. it happens more than you think.

I wish someone would. This was an awesome tool for my site and I hate being without it. I sent the scripts to someone on here to see if they could port it but I guess he had no luck.
